Climate Justice League - Saving the Planet with the Power of Four

A Hindi comic book that urges collective action for a sustainable future

Four superheroes – Balshali, Birhali, Sindhuraj and Barfilamanush – have the responsibility to save the world. However, they are unable to perform their duties as they get affected by the changing environmental conditions in their respective ecosystems. Air pollution, forest fires, sea pollution, melting ice – these climate change related realities are impacting them and their co-habitants. Their powers are diminishing, and lives threatened. They must act quickly and rally everyone to save the planet from this destruction.

The Hindi comic book - Climate Justice League - explores the causes of environmental  degradation and the solutions thereof.  The comic book's storyline resonates with the current state of the world, where climate change is affecting every living being on the planet. Impact of human activities on the environment has become a cause for concern, and it's time proper actions are taken. Development or growth has led to polluted oceans and rivers, deforestation and forest fire, melting of ice caps and rise in sea levels, air pollution and smog. The effects of climate change are visible everywhere, and even the most powerful heroes are struggling to cope.

Solutions comes in the form of Dr. UN and an endearing dog called Carbon who make our superheroes aware of the condition and prescribe appropriate medicines like the Sustainable Development Goals, commitments at Conference of Parties (COP).  They also emphasize on the need for individual actions and government initiatives to work towards achieving SDGs and reducing carbon emissions to mitigate the impact of climate change.

Climate Justice League comic book offers a sobering reminder of the state of the planet. It urges us to take responsibility for our actions and work towards creating a better world for ourselves and future generations.

The comic book has been conceptualised, designed and created by Chintan Environmental Research and Action Group, in collaboration with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung India office. It has been developed for young audiences in the low-income and marginalised communities, for awareness raising and starting a dialogue on action-oriented approach.
