Three Years of Street Vending Act: Taking Stock and Surging Ahead

The Street Vending Act 2014 is a milestone legislation for street vendors in India.

The National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) played a pivotal and catalytic role in making this happen and in organising street vendors such that they can now tackle their own issues effectively. Implementing the Street Vending Act in a country the size of India needs much more ground work and lobbying and advocacy with each State government. The present conference gave a unique opportunity for street vendors organisations from all over the country to sit together with a dynamic group of experts and policy practitioners to provide in depth insights on status of implementation of the Act. Related issues of organising women vendors, skilling the street vendors, and sustainability of street vendors were also addressed.
