Understanding the Gendered Digital in the Network Society

FES and IT for Change organised a genderlogue on “Understanding the Gendered Digital in the Network Society” which brought post graduate students in Bengaluru, into the debate, creating a space for them to critically examine the digital as a paradigm from a feminist standpoint. Welfare services for instance are literally a lifeline for women. Women’s lack of digital literacy and access to technology may jeopardise this and make them unequal economic citizens in the cashless economy. Using lectures, activities and discussion sessions, this genderlogue provided an overview of feminist perspectives on emerging debates at the intersections of digital technologies and development. Participants gained analytical insights into the political economy of technology and engaged with critical concerns for the women’s empowerment and gender equality agenda, in the context of a digitalizing India.
