Future of Work

How can India create one million jobs per month for its growing population when even today, in the best of circumstances, the spectre of jobless growth is looming?

The digital revolution is picking up speed with the Government of India stressing the fact that the country does not want to be left behind. However, the danger of certain jobs becoming automated in the future is becoming more and more real. Therefore, the creation of more and better jobs and livelihoods is an imperative today for policymakers everywhere. Like the rest of the world, India too faces an employment conundrum. The global window for export- and manufacturing-led growth is closing while automation and digitalisation are causing rapid disruption in production of goods and services.

Given this, how can India create one million jobs per month for its growing population when even today, in the best of circumstances, the spectre of jobless growth is looming? Where and how will the livelihoods of tomorrow be created? In light of these looming challenges, FES India along with think-tank, CUTS International, has started a series of discussions with a multi-stakeholder group in the search for new development models in Delhi and Bangalore.
