Leveraging opportunities within Electric Mobility for Just Energy Transition

The transition of automobile industry into cleaner and greener modes is a crucial step towards decarbonising the sector and addressing climate change by limiting greenhouse gas emissions. India is actively transitioning to electric vehicles (EVs), by providing incentives and creating an enabling ecosystem. However, some challenges remain. One of them being awareness and understanding of the opportunities that the electric mobility sector presents to the Indian society.

In recent years, FES India and CUTS International have produced cutting edge research on various aspects of electric mobility, with the primary focus on promoting a just energy transition. From assessing the impact of electric mobility on the job ecosystem and prospects of last-mile transportation as enabler for local jobs, to looking at its potential to enhance local economies and aligning the same with just energy transition goals of the country, the researches provided some interesting findings related to ecological effects of job ecosystems, economic empowerment of local community, socio-economic and environmental implications of last mile electric transport for employment generation, gender inclusivity within the sector.  

The outputs from these researches ranged from reports to digital stories and podcasts. The present publication - a data comic - has been created to extract and present the key statistical findings through a compelling narrative that sequentially connects these insights. Weaving the storyline from the perspective of the end consumer as the protagonist, the comic offers an opportunity to understand the implications and opportunities within the electric mobility ecosystem.
